FEBRUARY 2024'S NEWSLETTER

Welcome from Gisele and Marge your secretaries working in tandem. ONE GREAT BIG THANK YOU RIGHT OFF THE GET-GO TO GISELE FOR DOING THE COMPUTER WORK!!!!!!!!!

THANK YOU to the past executive and directors and their service.  Because of Covid, they went above and beyond the call of duty and their term in office.  A very heart-felt THANK YOU.    THANK YOU to the members who are staying on and a great big THANK YOU to them.    THANK YOU to the new members who stepped up.  Please be patient as we navigate through our new positions.

PAST ACTIVITIES in January: THANK YOU to Ken McCartney who worked out the Round Robin roster and printed out the schedule for the 16 players.  THANK YOU to Judy Zaychkowsky, Shirley Mitchell and Dianne Durda.  We just had our very first table tennis tournament on Sat. Jan. 27 with Val Vaskevich being the overall top player.  Ken McCartney and Mark Fellows tied for second place.  The top female player was Judy Zaychkowsky.  Tied for second were Shirley Mitchell, Carol Bucsis and France Champagne.  The time spent was PURE FUN and LAUGHTER!!  THANK YOU to Sue and Dave Prebble who kept us on our toes to make sure when and where we were playing and with whom and kept track the wins and losses. THANK YOU TO THE VOLUNTEERS WHO HELPED SET UP, BRING FOOD, HELPED CLEAN UP.    AND A GREAT BIG THANK YOU TO SHIRLEY FOR DOING SUCH AN AWESOME JOB ORGANIZING THE TABLE TENNIS TWICE A WEEK.

Susan Newman held a meeting on Friday, January 26 for interested members to work in collaboration with her in the Means and Ways Organization.  All kinds of new ideas were floated.  Some just fun, others to raise money, others to get rid of your unwanted stuff.  Susan will be pleased to hear from other volunteers to help out especially in setting up and then taking down, washing dishes and cleaning up the kitchen.  THANK YOU, SUSAN.

NOW HAPPENING:  BINGO (everyone over 18 is welcome) is now in full swing since the beginning of the year.  It's held every Sunday afternoon (doors close at 12:45).  A BIG THANK YOU TO CAROLYN GRAHAM FOR BEING THE ORGANIZER  --  THANK YOU TO CAROL WILKIE as the Co-Ordinator (403 980 9366) whose contact number you have for volunteering.  THANK YOU TO ALL THE VOLUNTEERS.  More volunteers are always appreciated.  There is a sign-up sheet  --  PLEASE SIGN UP ONLY IF YOU ARE ACTUALLY ABLE TO COME.    There is a minimum charge for snacks.    As all of this is new, again PLEASE be patient as the kinks are worked out.

UPCOMING EVENTS:  Weather permitting, a sleigh ride has been organized by Jean Moorehouse (403 948 3312) for Tuesday, February 6 leaving the Club by 1PM via a yellow school bus.  The cost is $55 for members and $60 for non-members.  Please arrive by 12:45 to sign your waiver form.  This bus is not wheelchair accessible.  We should be back about 4PM.  Jean, you've done an amazing job at finding interesting places and things for us to do - anything, to get us out of the house.  THANK YOU, JEAN MOOREHOUSE  --  WE APPRECIATE ALL YOUR TIME, ENERGY AND EFFORT YOU'VE PUT FORTH OVER THE YEARS FINDING AND SECURING INTERESTING VENUES FOR US TO VISIT.

COMMUNITY LINKS is coming on Wednesday, Feb. 7 at 1:30.  The presentation will be on PROTECTING OUR RETIREMENT WEALTH AND AVOID THE BURDEN OF OUTLIVING OUR MONEY.

Wednesday, February 7 at 9AM  Phyllis will start up a new class in Acrylic painting from the novice painter to the professional and everyone in between.  The topic will be The Red Cardinal bird.  There is a sign up sheet for a maximum of 20 participants.  This class is filling up quickly.  The cost is $35 which includes all the supplies you will need for the next  four weeks.  THANK YOU, PHYLLIS, FOR ALL THE TIME, ENERGY AND EFFORT YOU ARE SPENDING ON INSTRUCTING in what I expect will be yet another successful painting class/experience.        

Saturday, February 10 at 11AM the Club will be having a carpet bowling tournament organized by Myrtle Brewster and Nik Dusevic.  This tournament has its full compliment of 16 players.  $10/lunch is being charged for soup and sandwich.  THANK YOU TO MYRTLE AND NIC FOR ORGANIZING THIS AND ALL THE VOLUNTEERS WHO ADDED THEIR TIME.

Wednesday, February 14 at 7PM  --  1st Board Meeting (Gisele will take the minutes, type them up and distribute them to the Board). THANK YOU, GISELE and to the NEW BOARD.

Saturday, February 17 1:30 - 3:30 KEN AND FRIENDS will enterain you with live music and dance.  THANK YOU TO SUSAN for the awesome lunch  --  THANK YOU TO THE VOLUNTEERS.  A DONATION is always greatly appreciated.         If you would like something else added to future NEWSLETTERS, please send the information, in writing, to Marge or Gisele.  Thank You.        I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT I'VE MISSED OUT ON THANKING PEOPLE WHO'VE VOLUNTEERED AND PUT IN A LOT OF TIME, ENERGY AND EFFORT TO KEEP THIS CLUB OPEN AND OPERATING.  PLEASE ACCEPT MY GREAT BIG THANK YOU.  TO ALL THE ACTIVITY FACILITATORS AND WITHOUT ALL THE VOLUNTEERS AND PEOPLE WHO COME TO ENJOY THE ACTIVITIES, THIS CLUB WOULDN'T EXIST.  THANK YOU.

 NOW??  LOOKING FORWARD TO YET ANOTHER AWESOME YEAR WITH LOTS OF EVENTS COMING DOWN THE PIPE.
